World Menopause Day Celebration: A Huge Success, Enjoyed by All!

Did you know that World Menopause Day was established on October 18, 1984, by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Menopause Society? And did you know that on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Prime Time for Women was thrilled to host the first-ever World Menopause Day Celebration in Western Maryland?  All I can say is, “It’s about DAMN time!”

It was an honor to bring together respected women’s health experts and women from our community to create a welcoming space where we could share our experiences, hopes, questions, fears, and joys surrounding menopause—the third act of life; the next best chapter.

We began the day with Tekesha Martinez, PTFW’s Poet Laureate and former Mayor of Hagerstown, performing original spoken-word poetry written especially for the occasion. The audience laughed, shouted, clapped, and cheered as Tekesha’s powerful words resonated with the women in the room!

Dr. Anusha Bhatia, a highly respected member of the Capital Women’s Care team, delivered an informative and engaging presentation, taking time to answer the audience’s thoughtful questions. She clearly explained the science behind menopause, addressed common symptoms, and emphasized the importance of individualized treatment options. Most importantly, she reminded us that every woman deserves to be seen, heard, and understood—and encouraged us to become strong advocates for our own health and well-being.

“Be seen. Be heard. Inspire.” is more than Prime Time for Women’s tagline; it is at the heart of our mission. This message was central to Bernadette Wagner’s presentation, “Menopause: Flipping the Script from Fear to Freedom”.  When women have opportunities to feel heard, valued, and empowered, they are more likely to voice their desires, dreams, and goals—and more likely to pursue them with confidence!

I can’t imagine a more fitting venue for a workshop about menopause, often described as the next chapter of life, than the Next Chapter Café & Book Shop, owned by Melissa and Katie Noel. The space was warm, welcoming, and perfect for women to meet, connect, and share from the heart…there was even a great selection of books on the topic of the day!

After enjoying an amazing lunch prepared by the team at The Next Chapter, Amanda Miller, a professor of English at Hagerstown Community College, encouraged attendees to creatively reflect on the day’s experiences by creating their own zines.

This special day would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors: Capital Women’s Care, One Step Closer Coaching, and Lauren Brenneman, State Farm Agent. We are also deeply grateful to Indigo Moon Amber Sun Therapeutic Massage for donating a wonderful raffle gift basket filled with thoughtful goodies, including a one-hour massage!

As women, we move through many seasons of life—childhood, puberty, adulthood, and menopause. Each season brings its own challenges, changes, and opportunities for growth. We give one another a precious gift when we come together, at every age, in safe and supportive spaces to learn about our bodies, express our fears, share our hopes, and tell our stories.

May we continue to learn, connect, laugh, listen, and support one another as we embrace the next chapter of life. Together, we are stronger, healthier, and happier!
