Jane strives to inspire inclusion in our Community and her everyday life. While her most important role is parent to her adult children, making a difference is her second love. As Executive Director of the Literacy Council of Washington County, Jane grew the Council to become a strong advocate of Community and Inclusion. Through the Council, Jane was able to meet the growing need for English literacy, improved math, and GED prep through partnerships with other nonprofits who do the work in the Community and a partnership with HCC and the Western Maryland Consortium as well. Jane continues to tutor and teach for the Council and is a passionate supporter of the Council’s current Executive Director, Leah Green.
Jane also shows up in the Community serving as part of the Refugee Welcome Network, an Ally for Circles USA, a volunteer at Children in Need, and a volunteer for Trinity Lutheran Church’s food bank, among other places. She believes service happens between people not on social media, that being able to serve is an honor, and that we are more alike than we are different though seeing that and getting there is where the real work is needed.
Jane is truly honored to be part of the panel and to be seated next to those who show up so fully and humbly in our Community.
